Rural India and Healthcare – An insider view!

This is an opportunity to gain insights into a large, complex and effective healthcare system that works with a range of infectious diseases and impacts remote populations of rural India. ISAC offers an in-depth Rural and Public Health Rotation for medical/pre-medical/nursing/pre-nursing/clinical sciences students to work with local doctors on mobile vans, hospitals, clinics and Aids / HIV interventions.

This program gives participants a chance to learn about health problems and the healthcare system in rural India. Participants work with local doctors, rural clinics, government hospitals and charitable hospitals in the areas of public health, rural medicine and HIV / AIDS.

Program Highlights

  • Participants can rotate on mobile health vans; work in local government and charitable hospitals and small private clinics in the area.
  • Day trips to visit nearby leprosy hospital for participants interested in India-specific infectious diseases or to observe cataract surgeries.
  • From Dec-Jan, participants can get involved in more hands on work by conducting health checkups for underserved children.

    Minimum 2 weeks

    Cost

    Application Fee: $45
    On acceptance: $1400 for 2 weeks and $350 for each additional week.
