Malavli is a burgeoning town and a picturesque hill station in Pune district in the state of Maharashtra. It is about 59 km away from the city of Pune and 101 km away from Mumbai. It is a major stop on the rail line connecting Mumbai and Pune. For travel to Mumbai local trains are available from Lonavla. It is also an important town in order of Lonavla-Khandala-Malavli on the Mumbai-Pune road link. Both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway as well as the Mumbai-Pune highway pass through Malavli. This area comes to life during the monsoon season as the countryside turns lush green with waterfalls and ponds.
Malavli is popular for its proximity to the historic 'Bhaja' and 'Karla' caves both of which are heritage sites with well preserved remnants of at least 2500 year old Buddhist settlements. It is also en route the picturesque and day long Lohagad fort trek. Malavli also has the Vedanta Academy where people from around the world study the ancient Indian scriptures and their relevance to the modern world. Located close to Malavli are also two alternate healing centres 'AtmaSantulan Village' and 'Kaivalyadham' that attract many visitors throughout the year.
